Pepper’s such a cool family dog— but she wouldn’t have made it
without friends like you!
Here’s her heartwarming story:
Can you spoil a dog with too many hugs? Pepper, a Sheltie mix, would tell you no.
She returns every hug she gets from her new family with warm, wet doggy “kisses.”
However, life wasn’t always good for Pepper. She was found barely surviving in a home where neglect was the norm.
None of the animals there, including Pepper, were cared for. Their fur was matted and dirty. And Pepper was thin and weak. She could barely stand.
At first we thought Pepper may be seriously ill. Later, it was determined that she just didn’t get enough to eat. Once in a while, Pepper’s owner would dump a bag of kibble on the floor for more than a half dozen dogs.
The weaker Pepper got from hunger and malnutrition, the harder it was for her to be first in line for the once or twice a week feeding time.
Thank goodness people like you exist for animals like Pepper. If it weren’t for your support of the Dumb Friends League, Pepper may have just lain on that cold, dirty floor and died.
Fortunately, Pepper was rescued and because of you, received medical care, regular nourishing food, clean water, a dry and sanitary bed, and love.
Soon this little girl gained weight and grew strong enough to be ready for a permanent, loving home. She was adopted by a couple who had four wonderful children. Pepper considers them “her” children, and is very protective of them.
The family returns the favor by hugging her every chance they can. So, can you spoil a dog with too many hugs? Pepper doesn’t think so. And being an animal lover, you probably agree.
But hugs alone won’t save the animals who need us so desperately. Right in our community, there are animals who have been left behind by owners in desperate circumstances…
…and lost pets whose hearts yearn for their owners to find them.
…pets tethered to posts without water or shelter…I could go on.
That’s why I urgently need you to renew your support for the homeless and helpless pets in our care. I hope you will be able to give a gift now.
Your gift is like throwing your arms around a needy dog like Pepper. Your love…is hope…and life. What could be a better gift?
Please make your gift now.
Warmly,

Robert D. Rohde, President
