Animal cruelty investigations

Our investigatons department handles more than a thousand cases of animal abuse and neglect each year. Fortunately, we're able to resolve most cases by educating owners about responsible pet care. However, when necessary, our investigators will cite and summon individuals to court to face animal cruelty charges. If a pet's life is in danger, we will take custody of the animal and provide the medical care it needs.

Animal behavior assistance

Our specially-trained animal behavior staff helps prospective adopters maobedienceke appropriate pet selections and helps pet owners solve common concerns through free Behavior Tips and Topics class, obedience courses, our Behavior Helpline and a wide variety of behavior tips. Through our Shelter Manners Program, our staff works with the dogs in our care to teach them basic obedience lessons through "positive reinforcement." This not only helps the dogs feel more at ease while at our facilities, but also makes them more appealing to prospective adopters.

Pets Are Welcome program

If you're a Denver area property owner or manager interested in having your rental property listed in our Pets Are Welcome directory, or a pet owner who's looking for pet-friendly rental housing in the Denver area, check out our "Pets Are Welcome" page. "Pets Are Welcome" (PAW) is a Denver area program offered by the Dumb Friends League in response to the hundreds of animals that are brought to us because their owners are unable to find rental housing which allows pets. Our goal is to help renters with pets find housing via a directory of pet-friendly properties, to provide material for bothproperty owner/managers and renters which encourages rental housing for responsible pet owners, and to work with both building management and residents to develop and maintain fair and enforceable pet policies.
