Spay it Forward

To celebrate World Spay Day on Feb. 23, the Dumb Friends League hosted a free mobile spay/neuter clinic for cats, in partnership with the Denver Animal Shelter. In total, 39 cats were spayed or neutered during the one-day event— preventing future litters of unwanted cats.

This was a collaborative effort in support of World Spay Day, an international campaign that highlights spaying and neutering as a safe and effective way to reduce pet overpopulation and pet homelessness.

At the height of the summer, the Dumb Friends League cares for as many as 900 cats at our shelters. In addition to reducing pet overpopulation and pet homelessness, spaying and neutering helps both cats and dogs live longer, healthier lives. It can decrease the chance for certain types of cancer, and has been shown to reduce unwanted behaviors.

If you missed the free World Spay Day clinic on Feb. 23, it’s not too late! The Dumb Friends League’s mobile clinics, the Meow Mobile and the Lulu Mobile, travel to targeted communities throughout metro Denver year-round, offering spay and neuter services at reduced fees, subsidized by our donors, six days a week. Cat spay/neuter surgeries are free, and just $50 for dogs for income-qualified patrons.
