People in underserved areas can get highly subsidized spay/neuter surgeries for their pets when one of the following mobile clinics visits their neighborhoods.

The Meow Mobile clinic for cats
The Meow Mobile offers cat spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations to low-income pet owners in the metro Denver area. It is a partnership between the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society and the Dumb Friends League. Over the past 12 months, more than 2,100 surgeries have been performed by veterinarians who donated their time to help reduce the cat overpopulation problem in our community.

lulu mobile The Lulu Mobile clinic for dogs and cats
The Lulu Mobile offers dog and cat spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations for low-income pet owners in metro Denver, as well as communities across the state. Sites are selected in consultation with local shelters and veterinarians and the Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation. The Lulu Mobile, which began in September 2007, has the capacity for 32 surgeries a day. It is expected that at least 1,200 pets will be spayed and neutered over the next year.
Host sites are needed for both vehicles. If your business, community center or church can offer a parking lot, call us at (303) 751-5772, Ext. 7276. This is a good opportunity to provide a needed service to your community. There is no charge to our hosts.

Cat spay/neuter surgeries are $10. Dog spay/neuter surgeries are $35. spayWho performs the surgeries?
Veterinarians who are licensed in the state of Colorado perform the surgeries. Some are in private practice and volunteer through the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society. Others are on the staff of the Dumb Friends League. They have experience spaying and neutering dogs and cats in high-volume settings. They are assisted by veterinary technicians.

Where and when do I bring my pet?

  • Click on the links below to find upcoming dates and locations. The clinics operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • People whose animals cannot be accommodated are given rain checks for any future clinic. They are automatically first in line at the next clinic they attend, provided they bring the rain check (purple ticket) and arrive before 8 a.m.
  • For the safety of the animals and to keep their stress levels to a minimum, we hold cat clinics and dog clinics on separate days.
  • The number of surgeries performed in a day depends on the species, as well as the animals’ sizes and ages. Dog spay surgeries range from two to five per clinic. Dog neuter surgeries range from three to 10. The number of cats that can be spayed/neutered ranges from 15 to 20.

What do I need to know before I bring my pet for surgery?

  • Do not feed your animal after midnight the evening before surgery. Water is OK.
  • Bring animals at 8 a.m. the day of the clinic and pick them up between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. the same day.
  • Cats must be in carriers or other secure containers. Four cats per household can be brought. Separate carriers for each cat are preferable and should include a familiar towel or blanket.
  • Dogs must come on leash. No exceptions are permitted. There is a limit of one dog per household.
  • Although it is not required, you are urged to have your pets seen by a veterinarian in advance of the clinic to rule out any health problems that would make surgery unadvisable. We do not perform extensive pre-surgical examinations or blood analysis. Please note that if your pet has any medical issues (such as kidney, liver or heart problems) or is older than 7 years, there are increased risks associated with any operation.
  • Generally speaking, post-surgery veterinary care is not necessary. However, if a problem occurs that requires medical attention, patrons of the Meow Mobile are advised to take their cats to Broadview Animal Hospital in Aurora. Denver-area patrons of the Lulu Mobile take their dogs or cats to the Dumb Friends League Quebec Street shelter. Patrons who attend a clinic outside of metro Denver can take their animals to a local veterinarian with whom we have made prior arrangements. Appointments are required. Post-surgery home-care instructions include the appropriate telephone numbers.
  • Fees are $10 per cat and $35 per dog. Donations by cash or check are greatly appreciated.
  • Please make sure someone will be at home with your pet for the rest of the day following surgery.
  • You will receive home-care instructions when you pick up your pet.
