She picked up the box from the Texas truck stop and carried it to her cab. Inside were three tiny kittens, too young to be without their mother. The kind-hearted woman bought a carton of milk and fed the helpless babies by dipping her finger and letting them suckle. She didn’t know if they would live. They’d been abandoned at barely 4 weeks old. “I couldn’t just leave them at that parking lot,” she told us later. As she drove to Colorado, she thought about what to do next. She couldn’t keep five kittens in her truck! Meanwhile, the little innocents slept peacefully, unaware that this good Samaritan had saved their precious lives. “That’s it!” the woman said to the startled brood. She recalled the name of a Denver veterinary clinic that she had seen featured on a nationally televised program. As soon as she could, the woman pulled over, called the clinic and asked: “What can I do with three tiny kittens?” The answer was immediate: “The Dumb Friends League can help. The shelter is just down the road.” So the soft-hearted long-hauler brought the kittens to us, and we continued what she had started. We kept them in our care until each kitten grew strong and healthy. Each was adopted to a lifelong loving home. The happy ending to this story is made possible by YOU and your past generosity. You helped these tiny kittens and so many more receive the care they needed until they were old enough and healthy enough for adoption. How I hope I’ll be able to share more happy endings like this in the coming year. But with the number of unwanted litters on the increase in our community and in many other parts of the country, I fear we will see more and more homeless animals brought to us … and more helpless little ones left to fend for themselves on the streets. We need your help now more than ever before. Please … can I count on you to provide second chances for more kittens and cats, puppies and dogs that depend on us? Your gift today will help us provide:
I know if those three tiny kittens could talk, they would thank you for helping them find happy homes. So please send your tax-deductible gift today. You’ll be saving the next needy animal who comes our way, and that’s a great feeling. Warmest Regards, Robert D. Rohde, President |
