Today, nearly 900 homeless animals are relying on the Dumb Friends League for shelter, care and compassion. They are among more than 20,000 cats, dogs, small pets and horses the local animal welfare organization takes in every year. On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Dumb Friends League is asking for support in honor of Colorado Gives Day.
“As a private, independent nonprofit, we depend on the generosity of our community to help us give a voice to those who can’t speak for themselves,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO of the Dumb Friends League. “Colorado Gives Day is such an important day for the animals and people we serve, because it allows us to continue our lifesaving work.”
The Dumb Friends League is the largest animal welfare organization in the Rocky Mountain region. In fiscal year 2015, the League placed 100 percent of healthy cats and dogs into loving homes, and it has one of the highest placement rates in the country for a shelter of its size.
Named in 1910 after a London, England, animal welfare group called “Our Dumb Friends League,” the local nonprofit has locations in Denver, Castle
Rock and Franktown, and aims to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves—our companion animal friends.
Support from Colorado Gives Day will help the Dumb Friends League provide vital medical care, behavior training, foster care and adoption services to homeless pets, as well as spay and neuter services for cats and dogs in our community, humane education and animal neglect and mistreatment investigations. In addition, donations allow the Dumb Friends League to care for, rehabilitate and train abused and neglected horses at its Harmony Equine Center so they are ready for adoption into new, loving homes.
To participate in Colorado Gives Day and make a gift to the Dumb Friends League, go to http://DDFL.ORG/CGD before midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 8, or pre-schedule a gift any time in advance. You can make a one-time gift, or set up a recurring monthly donation that will help even more homeless pets.
Colorado Gives Day is an annual statewide movement to celebrate nonprofits in our community and increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving.
