Animal Care Team Leader
In her own words, our staff member Autumn shares her experiences, perspectives and memories from working at the Dumb Friends League.
Working for the Dumb Friends League has been the best professional decision I have made. I have been with the League for about 4.5 years now, and I grow to love this organization more and more every day. Even during the tough times and challenges, I always come back to loving what we do and what we stand for. I am so proud to be a part of this organization! Once I started my job at the League, I knew I was home. The people that work at the League are some of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever met, and I am so blessed to be surrounded by them every day.
I began my employment at the League in November 2016 as an animal care associate. I quickly took on more responsibility and became one of the staff members that moved animals around the shelter. I would first work on feeding the animals and cleaning their kennels, and then I would work on moving animals up for adoption or to contagion rooms if they were sick. After a while, ready/wait became its own position, and I became the first animal movement coordinator. That position has evolved over the last few years, and it was fun to help mold the position to what it is today. The animal movement coordinator position is a fun yet challenging one! I enjoyed having involvement in the flow of the animals in the shelter and ultimately moving them up to the adoption floor to find their furever homes. In July 2020, I was promoted to animal care team leader. I am so proud to be a part of the Animal Care department and provide support and guidance for the team that cares for our hundreds of animals daily.
I work for the League because I am passionate about animal welfare. I enjoy having a job that is fulfilling and making a difference in our community.
Animal welfare can be hard, but it is incredibly rewarding. I am honored to be an employee of the League and be able to help animals in need.
Thank you for all of your continued support, helping us find furever homes for the animals in our care!!
