One year ago, my kids finally wore us down, and we agreed to adopt a cat. Best decision ever!
The day we planned our trip to the Dumb Friends League, the kids were up and dressed before 5 a.m. When the shelter finally opened (a tortuous five hours later), the staff and volunteers were so friendly and helpful as we tried to find a cat that was friendly with young children. They explained to the kids exactly what kind of care a cat would need, and helped us narrow down a few cats to visit with.
When we met Ginger, we knew she was the one! At first, she was frightened and shy, but as the kids started to sing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” to her, she relaxed, started to purr and even kneaded my leg.
Her transition into our home was smooth as can be. She has been such a great addition to our family, and the kids have learned so much responsibility by taking charge of her feeding and litter box. She enjoys all the love and attention they shower on her.
Ginger has found her favorite places to lounge and rotates her nighttime sleeping places among all of our bedrooms. She will occasionally decide my face needs grooming at 3 a.m., but I know she means well. She is truly our forever cat!
Now, what to do? They’re starting to tell me she needs a sister …
