Introducing the Socially Conscious Sheltering Social Media Toolkit
Social media can be a powerful channel for advancing legislation, helping advocates to reach target audiences with strategic messaging and visuals. The Socially Conscious Sheltering (SCS) Social Media Toolkit is intended to do just that–help disseminate and highlight information about the SCS bill, including what the bill does, who supports it and how it will make a difference for Colorado shelters and rescue pets!
The SCS Social Media Toolkit includes shareable resources for use on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. All of these social network channels will be connected through a common hashtag (#adoptscs) and can link to more detailed information about the SCS bill on ddfl.org/advocacy-social-media-toolkit/.
The Dumb Friends League hopes our partners, supporters and “followers” share the same SCS messages and visuals via their own social media channels. We know that people tend to listen to their peers, friends and other trusted messengers when seeking recommendations about political causes, and we hope the SCS Social Media Toolkit provides an opportunity to easily create SCS ambassadors by leveraging social media networks.
Below are some key reminders about how to use the SCS Social Media Toolkit.
- Don’t forget to use the hashtag #adoptscs in all of your posts, regardless of the platform! The hashtag connects these posts together across networks and allows us to easily search for what’s being posted.
- With social media, the more the merrier. If you post something on Facebook, don’t be afraid to also post on Instagram and Twitter–different platforms may reach different audiences.
- When tweeting “at” the Legislature, please include the hashtag #coleg.
- You may also direct tweets and Facebook and Instagram messages at specific legislators – almost all of them engage on social media.
