The Dumb Friends League has partnered with Petco and the Petco Foundation to open a new adoption center at Petco’s busiest metro-area location at the intersection of Colorado Blvd. and Mexico Ave. in Denver. A grand opening celebration will be held on Sat., Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be Petco’s first full-service adoption center in Colorado.
The Dumb Friends League first established adoption partnerships with select Petco locations throughout metro Denver in 2012. Since then, the partnership has helped thousands of cats in need find homes and has significantly increased the League’s adoption rate for adult cats.
“We’re excited to build on our relationship with Petco to bring even more pets and people together throughout metro Denver,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO of the Dumb Friends League. “This opportunity will help us not only increase adoptions, but also reduce the length of stay for pets at our shelters and give us a new way to reach the animal lovers in our community.”
The new adoption center was made possible by a grant from the Petco Foundation and houses both adoptable cats and dogs from the Dumb Friends League. Adoption services and fees will be consistent with those at the League’s shelters—pets will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and receive appropriate vaccinations, a microchip identification implant and a free office visit with a participating veterinarian.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the Dumb Friends League to find loving homes for animals and continue to bring our Think Adoption First philosophy to life in Petco stores across the country,” said Susanne Kogut, Executive Director of the Petco Foundation. “We’re confident that this facility will help save many more lives and assist our partners at the Dumb Friends League as they make an even bigger difference for the animals of Denver.”
On Saturday, Feb. 21, the public is invited to a grand opening celebration for the new Dumb Friends League adoption center at Petco, located at 4100 E. Mexico Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include tours of the center, as well as refreshments and giveaways for people and pets.
