Return to Owner
There’s nothing quite as terrifying as when your beloved pet is lost. Regardless of if they squeeze out the door, jump the fence or seem to simply disappear, it’s hard not to imagine the worst-case scenario. It’s easy to place blame, even though we all know these things sometimes just happen. Here at the Dumb Friends League, lost pets enter our shelters every day. And, although sad, we’re fortunate to see the other side of the story – the happy moment when the owner and cherished pet are reunited.
Lost cat finds his way back home.
Jiji entered James’s life at a time when he didn’t think he wanted a cat. He discovered Jiji as a small, frail kitten a year earlier and had agreed to help nurse him back to health before sending him on his way to a new home. As fate would have it, James fell in love and soon these two were inseparable, the best of friends. Just before Christmas, James experienced all our worst nightmares when Jiji went missing. He was broken hearted. James looked for his beloved cat to no avail and had all but given up hope until he received a call from the Dumb Friends League. Jiji was microchipped and with this information, we were able to reunite the two more than a month after the sweet black cat had gone missing. James was beyond relieved to have his buddy back and a confused Jiji seemed just as relieved to see him.

Last year we reunited 1,786 lost pets with their people and these stories are some of our absolute favorites. Seeing owners find their pet, the happiness and excitement for both the animal and person are moments of “I’m not crying, you’re crying” here at the Dumb Friends League and are perfect examples of just how powerful the human-animal bond truly is.
