A.J. Villa, Development Coordinator
The Development Department helps to develop the organization’s mission in a manner that matches the passions and interests of supporters. It raises funds from individuals, companies and foundations by developing relationships with current and potential supporters to achieve a mutual goal.
Please tell us what your job involves. I process daily donations, talk to donors and coordinate our daily and weekly mailings: both requests for donations and thank you letters for those received.
Do you have a favorite donor interaction story? I’ve had some interesting ones, but always enjoy being able to turn what may begin as a negative interaction into a positive one. One in particular was a lady who hadn’t donated in a while, but in the end gave us a generous gift after I resolved her issue.
What do you like to do when you’re not working? My favorite thing is hanging out with my family and hearing about their days. I also love the outdoors. Some of my favorite activities are camping, fishing. golf, softball and basketball. My enjoyment of basketball extends to coaching a boys’ youth team.
Tell us about your family. I have an amazing wife, Jamie, a wonderful nine-year-old son, Josef, and a two-year-old firecracker of a daughter, Jaylynn.
Do you have any pets? We have three dogs: Poncho (four); Nala (three); and Coco (eight months). Poncho and Nala are total mutts—half English bulldog and half everything else! Coco is a Yorkie we adopted from the Dumb Friends League. When she came in, she had major health issues. Our amazing veterinary staff gave her great care and provided a foster home for weeks before we took her home. My family, especially Jaylynn, loves her. Interesting fact about our dogs: they were all born on the first of the month—October, June and January!
