“September” came a few weeks early for the Dumb Friends League signature summer fundraiser, Lulu’s BBQ! On August 17, more than 460 guests joined hosts Jana and Fred Bartlit at the Harmony Equine Center to raise money for the homeless pets and horses in our care.
The event kicked off with a late afternoon horse demonstration followed by guests enjoying cocktails, mingling and bidding on a record number of silent auction items. After a traditional BBQ dinner by Chef Tom Perini of Buffalo Gap, Texas, auctioneer John Clatworthy got the crowd excited for the live auction. The energy and spirit did not have an opportunity to subside before guests were on their feet singing and dancing along with Earth, Wind & Fire.
More than $1 million was raised to help the homeless pets and horses in our care. We’re thrilled to share that Bailey, Jethro, Kuni, Lucy and Roland the dogs and Sparkle and Stevie Wonderful the cats were adopted and found new families at the event.
“Animals are vital to our well-being,” said Laurie Peterson, vice president of development. “To be in a room where so many people believe in our mission is inspiring and humbling. We thank each and every person who believes in the work we do, supporting our quest to end pet homelessness and animal suffering.”
Going, going, gone to another successful Lulu’s BBQ!
