On your marks, get set, SCURRY at Wash Park to support the Dumb Friends League at the 2024 Furry Scurry

DENVER (Feb. 13, 2024) – Grab your walking shoes and your furry friend, the Dumb Friends League 31st annual Furry Scurry is just a quick jaunt away! This year’s Furry Scurry will take place on Saturday, May 4 at Washington Park in Denver. Join thousands of other animal-lovers at this annual fundraising event that features a two-mile dog walk, a pet-friendly “Flealess Market,” an appearance by KBCO radio personality, Keefer, live music and prizes, and supports the more than 44,000 pets and horses that the League cares for each year. This means that a fun-filled Saturday can make a difference in the lives of pets in Colorado!

Last year, more than 3,800 humans and 3,000 furry friends scurried together and generously raised more than $640,000 that went toward the compassionate care that the League provides.

“On average, it costs a total of $597 to support an animal’s journey at the League, and less than one percent of the League’s annual budget comes from government-funded sources,” said Margaret Linn-Addison, Director of Development at the Dumb Friends League. “Most of the support for the League’s vital work is provided by compassionate donors, including Furry Scurry registrants. In fact, 77 cents of every dollar raised at the Furry Scurry goes to animal care services, education, and outreach, ensuring that every animal that walks through the League’s doors receives the best care.”

Want to help transform the lives of pets? Registration is now open for this year’s event, which will include both in-person and virtual options for participants. The in-person event will begin at 9:00 a.m. – with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. – and conclude at noon. If you want to help support and raise funds from afar, you can scurry with or without your furry companion and fundraise virtually until May 24! Hike a mountain, walk on the treadmill, take a stroll through the mall, or even run a 5k! Every bit helps support the lifechanging, compassionate work that the League does.

Participants can double their impact by forming or joining a team to work toward a fundraising goal together. Teams also get the opportunity to win awards, such as the “Largest Canine Crew” and “Spirit Award” contests. All scurriers are encouraged to collect donations and fundraise beyond their entry fee to earn exclusive Furry Scurry swag or the top fundraising prize of “A Night of Music and Nature” at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

Registration for the Furry Scurry is open now. Prices increase on March 25, so register yourself, and your friends (furry and not) at furryscurry.org.

This year’s Furry Scurry event is generously sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, 9News, MetLife Pet Insurance, and iHeart Media’s KBCO and KTCL radio stations.

About the Dumb Friends League

Founded in 1910, the Dumb Friends League is a national model in animal welfare, standing as a compassionate voice for those unable to speak for themselves, and advocating for community pets and the people who care about them. Each year, the League provides care and refuge to more than 44,000 pets and horses across Colorado. Compassionately committed to ending pet homelessness and animal suffering, the League’s services go beyond sheltering.
