The Vera & Joseph Dresner Foundation generously donates $150,000 to the Dumb Friends League

The Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation’s donation supports the Keeping Families Together/Pet Assist program.

DENVER [Aug. 31, 2023] – The Dumb Friends League announced today that the Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation has partnered with them through a generous grant of $150,000 to support the Keeping Families Together/Pet Assist program for fiscal year 2024.

The Dumb Friends League’s Pet Assist program provides veterinary care and temporary foster placement for pets when owners are experiencing domestic violence, short-term hospitalization, housing insecurity, or other situations that leave them unable to care for their animal. The newly stand-alone program within Dumb Friends League is led by licensed social worker and program manager Hannah Tomaszewski, MSW, who works with pet owners to access the resources they need to keep themselves and pets healthy and safe.

The Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation transforms lives through grants specifically focused on health, youth and family, and animal welfare and is dedicating to enriching lives by providing the resources that people and animals need to lead full and healthy lives.

In partnership with the Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation, the Dumb Friends League plans to expand the Pet Assist program by adding 25 foster homes, keeping the pet relinquishment rate under 10 percent, and keeping up to 300 pets and their families together.

“The Pet Assist program is essential in supporting our mission and we are incredibly grateful to the Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation for seeing the value in this program of the League,” said Tomaszewski. “Through their support, we have the opportunity to serve more people and more pets in our community through temporary foster care so that people can get the care they need with the peace-of-mind that their beloved pet is safe, loved, and nurtured.”

Thanks to the generosity of the Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation, the Dumb Friends League will continue their commitment to their mission of ending pet homelessness and animal suffering by keeping pets and people together.
